Youth and Community Programs

Responsibility. Safety. Attitude.

Driving Life Skills Australia has developed specific training programs for young drivers, our most popular being the iDrive Community Program.

90% of driving is driver attitude, we work on helping drivers understand the risks involved with driving and how to prevent them. We understand this and work with each driver to create safe driving practices and understanding driver attitude.

iDrive - Youth Driver Awareness

iDrive

iDrive is a great effort by Driving Life Skills Australia to combat youth deaths on Australian roads. Drivers aged 16 to 24 years make up 14% of the total driving population, but account for 27% of driver fatalities and 26% of serious injuries.

More education is the key to safer drivers. This is not a defensive driving course, it is a life skill.

In our approach towards vehicle education and driver training we aim to influence driving emotion and cognition to create low risk driving behaviours. The iDrive Youth Driver Training Program is modelled around the low risk driving approach created by Scott Bornholm to incorporate active learning methods and create an ability for self-reflection.

Some topics covered throughout the day;

  • What is a safe distance to follow behind another vehicle?
  • Where will your vehicle stop when travelling at 60kph and 100kph?
  • How long can I drive for before my metabolism slows?
  • What happens to my vehicle if I brake and move into the gravel?
  • What do I do if my vehicle slides or I lose control?
  • How do I stop in an emergency without skidding?
  • What happens if my tyre blows when driving?
  • What do I do if a kangaroo jumps out?
  • What is fatigue and how do I identify it?

Driving Life Skills Australia provides the iDrive program Australia wide! Training is available throughout South Australia (SA), Victoria (Vic), Tasmania (Tas), New South Wales (NSW), Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Queensland (Qld), Northern Territory (NT), and Western Australia (WA). To see if we can accommodate your school, community, or youth group please call or email us. Spaces and availability are very limited!

Please Note: All profits and donations to the iDrive program are reinvested into future youth programs, youth research, and youth development!
